Obama’s expanding Influence

Only barely into his first 100 Days President Obama’s opportunities and power already rival recent predecessors. With Senate Alren Spectre defection to the Democrats, and the recount going on in Minnesota, the President will have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. Combined with the Democratic Majority in the House the president has the power to force through heavy legislation. With Supreme Court Justice David Souter retiring, Obama can appoint a liberal minded judge to the highest court in the land. With the current opinion polls safely in favor of the President, he has the lee way to tackle aggressive problems. The combination of these factors is creating an environment of influence and power not seen since Ronald Reagan.

In addition to his expanding political clout, the president is expanding his reach into the commercial industry. The dire economic situation has allowed the president to take control of the auto and banking industry, core elements of the American way of life. With plans to expand the research and development budget, and holding close meetings with the credit industry, the President is further putting his mark on the capitalistic markets of America.

As was said in Spider Man, we great power comes great responsibility. Only time will if President Obama will put the countries future before the political agenda of the Democratic Party
