President insensitivity to Religious Heritage

President Obama spoke at Georgetown University yesterday, what makes this interesting is that his administration asked that all symbols be covered up for his speech. Georgetown is the oldest Roman Catholic University in the United States. I cannot think of any rational reason that he would wish Roman Catholic symbols to not be displayed during his speech. You would think that being a visitor on the campus of such a prestigious university, he would respect its traditions and heritage. Sadly this was not the case. The most controversial symbol to be masked during his speech was the Jesus Christ Monogram ‘ihs’.

Simply being seen in the same room of the symbol would not imply any kind of official endorsement of the religion. It would be grossly oversensitive for anybody to be offended by the symbol given the heritage of the institution. It would be like being offended by blue stars when you attend a Dallas Cowboy’s game. This has garnered the Whitehouse +10 lame points. Can anybody explain the rationale behind this?
